.....Ship to Shore news.....
Recent Silverport Pictures sales include:
-Photograph sold of Sir Francis Drake statue with beautiful sunset to the Vice President of The Drake Exploration Society.
-Photograph licence sold of Plymouth Classic Boat Rally to English Heritage for use in one of their books.
-Framed presentation print sold as present to Army Captain in London.
-Researched and Framed Devon Shipwrecks Map for a customer's husbands birthday.
-Two photographs sold and on the way stateside to New York as a gift from husband to wife.
-Digitally restored a faded/scratched photograph print of sister and brother from the 1930’s/1940’s.
-Greetings cards sold to French lady living in Plymouth, practiced a bit of my French language skills, although my ‘Plymuf’ pronunciation needs a bit of work.
-Tea towel sold of funny 18th century style ‘Rules of the Inn’ and on its way from son to mother in Canada to make it very clear that ‘No banging of Tankards is allowed’ and a bed will cost 'a few shillings' - glad that’s sorted then.
-Beautiful photograph sold of Tall Ship from Russia, which I photographed in Cornwall and sold to a couple from England, for their French home.
Recent events include:
-Photographing Plymouth Classic Boats 2010 aboard the 'Donna Capel' a beautifully restored 1943 Gaff rigged Ketch boat.
-Photographing a very pleasant evening, organised by Maritime Plymouth, aboard the Bessie Ellen old trading ketch and Tectona training boats.
-Very, very early morning hot air balloon voyage taking photographs over South Hams and Dartmoor in beautiful sunshine, then working in the shop for the new later opening hours of 6:30pm for summer.
Memorable ‘ships passing’:
-Whilst out photographing the coast, bumping in to Damon Albarn of UK supergroups Blur/Gorillaz, pleasant guy, he was just enjoying boats on a beach - more 'Sealife' than 'Parklife.'
-Three Saudi Arabian sailors asking to see one of my Nelson books - his legend continues around the world.
- European lady asking if my DVD of Henry Fielding’s historical character ‘Tom Jones’ was from his younger singing days as he looks different on the cover photograph (blonde haired actor Max Beesley, not the dark haired Welsh Wonder).
- An American Navy Captain and Russian Navy Officer walk into my shop...no joke! I thought it best not to mention "Hunt for Red October" film. U.S Captain buys photographs of Barbican scenes in Plymouth to take back to the States.
- Lovely old lady buys a framed print of Nelson in the bloody heat of battle at Trafalgar. She was about 5ft 4 inches in height, same as Nelson apparently.
- Seeing the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ TV celebrities springing out of a taxi directly outside my shop for a night in the Barbican district, graciously led by Flavia with a touch of Argentine tango ankle flick I think.
- Seeing a few of the cast of ‘Dinnerladies’ northern TV sitcom walking past my shop with chips in hand, although I couldn’t see if they had mushy peas and gravy, which would be my preferred accompaniment, although ketchup would be pushing it a bit.
